Exploring the Future of Safety — Craig and I Fly the New SR20 G7+
Earlier this week, Craig and I launched out of Van Nuys (VNY) on a mission that blended discovery, trust, and some of the best scenery Southern California has to offer. We climbed over the San Gabriels, crossed the Antelope Valley, and set course for Lancaster (KWJF) — a perfect route to explore the capabilities of the new Cirrus SR20 G7+, now available at Mach 1 Aviation.
We briefed and flew the RNAV 24 approach into KWJF, working through route changes, descent planning, and system transitions as part of Craig’s custom “VFR & IFR Different Course.” The goal wasn’t just to fly a profile — it was to think, adapt, and experience what this new platform truly brings into the cockpit
So what makes the G7+ stand out?
From the moment you sit down, the G7+ feels like a leap forward. Yes, it’s still an SR20 — but it delivers a more refined, intuitive, and supportive experience:
- Garmin Perspective+ with faster processing, sharper visuals, and smarter workflow
- Redesigned center console and ambient lighting, making cockpit management more ergonomic and focused
- And most importantly:
This particular SR20 G7+ is equipped with Safe Return™ Autoland — an emergency system that can land the aircraft automatically in case of pilot incapacitation.
Flying an SR20 with Autoland is more than a milestone. It’s a message: Cirrus continues to push general aviation forward — not just with performance, but with life-saving innovation.

Why this flight mattered
Craig and I have flown many hours together, but this flight truly stood out. We weren’t chasing procedures — we were building awareness, judgment, and mutual trust. We talked openly, tested ideas, adapted to changes in real time, and flew with flexibility and focus. That’s where real progress happens — not in checking boxes, but in refining how we think and make decisions in the air.
What I truly admire about Craig is his dedication to growth. He comes to every flight fully prepared, fully engaged, and ready to explore new perspectives. He asks thoughtful questions, embraces feedback, and absorbs new information with both humility and confidence. And once something makes sense, he applies it with quiet precision.
Our sessions have evolved into something more than just instruction — they’ve become a partnership in flying well. Craig isn’t just learning systems or profiles; he’s sharpening judgment, mastering transitions, and becoming more intentional in every phase of flight. Working with him is a reminder of how meaningful and rewarding this work can be.
That day, the cockpit wasn’t just a place to train — it was a shared space of focus, curiosity, and steady excellence.
As a Cirrus instructor at Mach 1, I strive to make every flight personal, practical, and growth-oriented. Whether you’re a new pilot or experienced aviator, my goal is to meet you where you are — and help you move forward with purpose.
